Backup & restore

Create a full backup of all your vocabulary and restore it on another device — separate from sharing individual lists.

Why a backup?

VocaBox stores your vocabulary locally on your device — no account, no cloud. That’s private and fast, but it also means: if the device is lost or the app is reinstalled, the words are gone without a backup. A backup packs your entire collection into a single file.

Creating a backup

Via Settings → Backup you export all your languages, boxes, words and images into a .vbxbackup file. Keep it somewhere safe — in your cloud, e-mailed to yourself, or on a computer.

Tip: if you allow notifications, the app reminds you once a month to back up — but only when there’s something new since your last one.

Restoring

On a new device or after a reinstall, import the .vbxbackup file again via Settings → Backup — and your whole collection is back. Moving between iPhone and Android works this way too.

Backup or share?

Both create a file, but for different purposes:
